The original version of the Oxford chair edited by Frederitz Hansen was designed for the professors of St. Catherine's College in Oxford, at 1963. When the Dean of the College of St. Catherine's chose Arne Jacobsen to build the extension of the university, he was responsible for designing the landscaping of the surroundings and a series of furniture. Despite the initial protests and the uproar, Arne Jacobsen received an honorary doctorate in Oxford at the end of the project. This innovative design example for Fritz Hansen is now considered one of the most outstanding works by A. Jacobsen.
