The Cité chair edited by Vitra, which was designed for a competition to equip the student residence of the Cité Universitaire de Nancy, is one of the first masterpieces by Jean Prouvé. This dynamic armchair, with its characteristic painted steel skids and its wide leather belts as armrests, was used by Prouvé himself in the living room of his house. Its wide dimensions and a cozy upholstery contribute to create excellent comfort.
Details: Seat and backrest upholstered in beige one-piece fabric. Padding: height adjustable polyurethane foam cervical cushion. Base: curved steel sheet with red powder coating.

Diseñador

Jean Prouvé (1901-1984) was born in Paris and is where he trained as an artistic blacksmith. In 1931 he founded Les Ateliers Jean Prouvé, and between 1957 and 1968 he heads the construction department of the Compagnie Industrielle de Matériel de Transport in Paris; work that leaves when he begins to direct a study in Paris as an architect.
Until the beginning of the 70 years he holds a chair at the National Conservatory of Arts and Crafts, and since the 80 is dedicated to perfecting their furniture designs. In many of his works, he manages to combine his pretensions in terms of functionality, suitability of materials and economy with the complex requirements of mass production.
