The Signature FH429 armchair was designed by Frits Henningsen, a cabinetmaker who practiced his profession with very high standards. Henningsen always made his own designs and often started by creating a small model, in this case, using modeling clay and toothpicks. The framework was held at his Copenhagen workshop, and he underwent several months of testing and adjustments before Henningsen was satisfied.
The simplicity of Henningsen's work increased over the years. The Signature chair has become its purest and most trimmed design. His interest in achieving comfort and elegance through the use of elegant lines and curves is evident in this final project. Its soft and cozy shapes and floating armrests create a simple and organic form that requires silent contemplation.
After the manufacture of the chair in 1954, less than 20 pieces were produced. Carl Hansen & Søn reintroduced the design in 2015.
