In Copenhagen he attended the School of Arts and Crafts. As a young architect, he joined Arne Jacobsen and Erik Møller, working on furniture design for the new town hall of Aarhus at 1940. During the same year, the master cabinetmaker, Johannes Hansen, began to collaborate with Wegner.
