"Akari's light is like sunlight filtered through shoji paper. Thus, the hardness of electricity is transformed again into the light of our origin - the sun - thanks to the magic of paper, so that its warmth continues to fill our rooms at night. "(Isamu Noguchi)
From the year 1951, Isamu Noguchi created the Akari Light Sculptures, more than 100 models of table lamps, standing or ceiling made by hand in Shoij paper. The word "akari" with which he called the collection is a Japanese expression that means clarity, light and lightness.
The Akari Light Sculptures are part of the collection of the Vitra Design Museum.
