From 1951, the American-Japanese artist and designer Isamu Noguchi created the Akari Light Sculptures, more than 100 different models made by hand on Shoij paper. "Akari" is the name chosen to denominate this collection formed by table lamps, standing or ceiling. It is a Japanese expression that means clarity, light and lightness.
Vitra exclusively edits the Akari Light Sculptures.

Isamu Noguchi (1904 - 1988) was born in Los Angeles. He studied at the Columbia University and the Leonardo da Vinci Art School.
