The History of the Eames Plastic Chair

The idea for this legendary plastic chair was born in 1948 for the Low-Cost Furniture Design competition, organized by the Museum of Modern Art.

In 1951, the use of organically shaped fiberglass revolutionized furniture manufacturing at the time and resulted in the first mass-produced plastic chair. Due to this, they discovered characteristics that turned the aesthetics and way of thinking of the time in the furniture industry upside down: on the one hand moldable, rigid and resistant on the other, ideal for industrial manufacturing systems, a real find that has endured over the years.

One of the reasons for its success is that Plastic Chairs are manufactured in a wide variety of colors for the shell, bases and different upholstery options. For indoors and outdoors, with or without arms, and with more than 60 years of life, this Vitra icon adapts to all types of environments: dining rooms, offices, kitchens, living rooms, bars, restaurants, terraces and gardens. In short, they make it an essential piece on any occasion

Charles and Ray EamesAmong the greatest American designers of this century, they are best known for their innovative contribution to architecture, furniture design, industrial design and manufacture, and photographic art. They developed a whole family of products, the Eames Plastic Group, which still today continues to serve as a model for a large number of designs.

Currently, the Swiss company Vitra manufactures the marriage designs exclusively for Europe. In Naharro furniture you can find all his creations.
