"Akari's light is like sunlight filtered through shoji paper. Thus, the hardness of electricity is transformed again into the light of our origin - the sun - thanks to the magic of paper, so that its warmth continues to fill our rooms at night. "(Isamu Noguchi)
From the year 1951, the American-Japanese artist and designer Isamu Noguchi created the Akari Light Sculptures, more than 100 different models made by hand on Shoij paper. The word "akari" with which he called the collection, is a Japanese expression that means clarity, light and lightness.
The Akari Light Sculptures are edited exclusively by Vitra and are part of the Vitra Design Museum.
