The A201 suspended lamp from Artek was designed by Alvar Aalto in 1952 for the Säynätsalo City Hall Library in central Finland.
Composed of formed sheet steel, the A201 pendant lamp has a sculptural presence; its beauty can be appreciated whether it is on or off. The light coming from the bottom and top of the screen creates a beautiful halo, typical of Aalto, which sought to make the artificial light as indirect and soft as possible.
A201 is available in standard white with brass accents and a limited edition dark red version, inspired by the triple light variation (A203) hanging above the dining table in Aalto's private Helsinki home.
Details: Red finish with brass details. Shade and ring in molded sheet steel. Does not include light bulb.
