The upper screen of the PH 5-4½ lamp, shaped like a trumpet, illuminates the area located on the three screens, which project light, mainly, downwards. A reflector installed in the base and a blue anti-glare ring protect against glare from all angles. The light reaches its maximum intensity directly under the luminaire. The screens are painted in matt white to ensure that the light is very comfortable.
It is a design by Ebbe Christensen & Sophus Frandsen, based on sketches by Poul Henningsen.
Details: Centrifugal aluminum screens. Straps in matt chrome-plated aluminum.

Poul Henningsen

Poul Henningsen (1894-1967) was born in Copenhagen. He studied at the Technical School in Frederiksberg, Denbrand and at the Technical College in Copenhagen.
He began to practice traditional functionalist architecture, but over the years his professional interests changed to focus on lighting. At the beginning of the Second World War, he was chief architect of the Tivoli Gardens (Copenhagen). It became a vital part of the Danish colony of artists who lived in Sweden.
His ongoing collaboration with Louis Poulsen Lighting began at 1925 and lasted until his death.
