Shortly after Julius August Kalmar founded the company in 1881, he presented works made of cast bronze at the Vienna Trade Show in 1888, and they were immediately acclaimed for their forward-thinking and meticulous construction. His son, Julius Theodor Kalmar, years later, gave the company a new direction by developing lamps for the prestigious architects Josef Frank and Oskar Wlach.
Today the company conceives new designs that reference Kalmar's rich past and anticipates the social and cultural trends that will shape future interiors. His lamps are installed in prestigious places such as the Presidential Palace of the Moscow Kremlin, the RMS Queen Mary 2, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, as well as luxury hotels of the Ritz-Carlton groups, W Hotels, Waldorf Astoria, Shangri-La , Grand Hyatt and Mandarin Oriental.
