"Akari's light is like sunlight filtered through shoji paper. Thus, the hardness of electricity is transformed again into the light of our origin - the sun - thanks to the magic of paper, so that its warmth continues to fill our rooms at night."(Isamu Noguchi)
Beginning in 1951, the American-Japanese artist and designer Isamu Noguchi created the Akari Light Sculptures, over 100 different models made by hand from Shoji paper. "Akari" is the name chosen to name this collection made up of table, floor and ceiling lamps. It is a Japanese expression that means clarity, light and lightness.
