"Akari's light is like sunlight filtered through shoji paper. Thus, the hardness of electricity is transformed again into the light of our origin - the sun - thanks to the magic of paper, so that its warmth continues to fill our rooms at night."(Isamu Noguchi)
From 1951, the American-Japanese artist and designer Isamu Noguchi created the Akari Light Sculptures, more than 100 different models made by hand in Shoji paper. "Akari" is the name chosen to name this collection formed by table, floor or ceiling lamps. It is a Japanese expression that means clarity, light and lightness.
Details: It is part of the Vitra Design Museum Collection. Vitra publishes the Akari Light Sculptures exclusively.
