Sean Scully

Sean Scully (Dublin, 1945), of Irish origin but nationalized American, works, from the beginning of his career, from geometry, in a line that links the tradition of the cold abstraction of Piet Mondrian and the painting of fields of color of Mark Rothko.
It incorporates to its compositions different pieces that it paints independently, which reinforces the spatial tension of its characteristic structure of vertical and horizontal bands; plays in this way with the trompe l'oeil that provokes the sensation of advance and retreat of parts of the work, enhanced by the variation of colors. The handling of the color is essential in the evolution of the work of Scully, who dispenses with the acrylic to use the oil, which offers greater expressive power.
He has exhibited extensively throughout Europe and the United States, with a presence in some of the most important museums in the world, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, the National Gallery of Art and the Smithsonian, among many others.
