Lorenzo Frau, known as 'Renzo', was born in Cagliari in 1881. Married to Savina Pisati, he lived in Turin and Great Britain, where he discovered the Chesterfield armchairs and exported them to Italy, creating his own workshop, Poltrona Frau in 1912. He combined this British style with French and central European style models. Poltrona Frau became not only a production pole, but also a meeting point for artists and intellectuals.
Renzo died during the Great War, in 1926 and his wife would take the reins of the company.
