Carlos Gonçalves was born in Manteigas (Portugal, 1953), arrives in Spain at 1969 and studies two Spanish Philology courses at the University of Santiago de Compostela. In 1980 he graduated in the specialty of Engraving at the National School of Graphic Arts in Madrid. Four years later he attends the Taller de Arte Actual directed by Antonio López García at the Círculo de BBAA in Madrid. He studies at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Madrid, where he is licensed at 1987. At the 2003 he attends the Xylography and Linocuting Workshop of the Casa de la Moneda Foundation in Madrid. He has won numerous awards, including, among others, at 1985 the First Prize II Ford Painting Contest, Madrid), at 1989 the Accésit VI Prize International Engraving Máximo Ramos, (Ferrol) and the Engraving Prize Carmen Arozena, (Madrid), the First Prize of the National Contest of Engraving Ciudad de Burgos. In 1991, the Second Antonio Rincón National Drawing Prize, (Guadalajara), the First Guadarrama Painting Contest Prize, First Cebreros Engraving Contest Prize, (íƒï † vila), Honorable Mention, I Ourense Engraving Biennial . In 1992, the First Prize Carlos de Haes Painting Competition, the First Prize I International Exhibition of Engraving, Municipal Museum of Ourense. It is represented in numerous private and public collections, such as the Museum of Contemporary Graphic Art, (Fredrikstad, Norway), Contemporary Graphic Fond, (Cluj, Romania), Diputación de Guadalajara, Burgos City Council, Guadarrama City Council.
