Robert Dudley Best
Robert Dudley Best (1892-1984) After inheriting the largest lighting factory in the world, he traveled to the International Exhibition of Modern Design in Paris, being fascinated by Le Corbusier and Mies van der Rohe. Inspired by what he had seen, he began his industrial design studies in Paris and Düsseldorf, making a close friendship with Walter Gropius, founder of the Bauhaus movement. Here he made the first sketches of the iconic Bestlite collection. The designs of his Birmingham factory changed radically.
