Hans J. Wegner
Hans J. Wegner (1914-2007) was born in Tønder, Denbrand. At the age of 17 years, he finished his apprenticeship as a cabinetmaker with IC Stahlberg. In Copenhagen he attended the School of Arts and Crafts. As a young architect, he joined Arne Jacobsen and Erik Møller, working on furniture design for the new town hall of Aarhus at 1940. During the same year, the master cabinetmaker, Johannes Hansen, began to collaborate with Wegner. The Copenhagen Museum of Art and Industry acquired its first chair at 1942 and Wegner created his own design studio a year later.
