Born in Southern California, he received training in design at the University of California, Los Angeles. He worked for the architect Victor Gruen before establishing his own studio at 1964.
The Society of Industrial Designers of America and Business Week Magazine awarded the Design of the Decade to the Aeron chair at 1999. He has received numerous awards in the last three decades. Chadwick's relationship with Knoll brands a milestone in the career of an inventive designer.
